Arsenal and Manchester United target William Carvalho could be on course to missing a January move for William Carvalho, with his current club Sporting Lisbon keen to get their key midfielder to sign a new contract.
Both of the English Premier League clubs have been linked with the Portuguese international over the last summer, while the Gunners reported to have turned down a last-gasp £13 million bid for Joel Campbell on deadline day.
With Sporting determined to tie Carvalho down to a long-term deal, any hopes of Arsene Wenger or Louis van Gaal signing the 22-year-old look lost.
According to reports, the Lisbon-based club will offer Carvalho a year’s extension on his current deal with them, and more money if he commits to stay with the club.
This means that any offer from Arsenal or Manchester United, or any other interested club, will have to be significantly higher than the reported £24 million Sporting were asking for this year.
