Julian Draxler’s stunning performance against Chelsea on Wednesday night against Chelsea in their UEFA Champions’ League Group G opener has put several English Premier League clubs on alert.
The 20-year-old shone against the Blues for his current club Schalke 04, with his German club putting a $60 million buy-out clause on his head.
Draxler has been on Arsenal’s radar for ages, but last January saw the Gunners shield away from activating the ‘expensive’ clause, on the premise that the German midfielder simply wasn’t worth it.
And Draxler agreed that he simply hadn’t played well enough to attract the attention.
“The [buy-out clause] stayed with me,’ Draxler said last summer.
“I did not play like 20 clubs were ready to pay this sum for me last season. I have to become attractive to big clubs again.”
Chelsea and Manchester City are also looking on Draxler, with the January transfer window three months away, one club may finally find the high price right.
