35-year-old midfielder Jonathan Greening had hung up his boots but has come out of retirement to sign for Northern Counties East Premier Division side Tadcaster Albion.
The former Manchester United midfielder, in a remarkable u-turn from his apparent retirement, signed on the dotted line for Albion.
“It’s unbelievable for the club,” Tadcaster manager Paul Marshall said.
“My son has known his daughter for some time but I had never spoken to him before yesterday.”
“He’s got a Champions League winners’ medal and has played for some brilliant clubs. I can’t get the smile off my face.”
“We had ex-Leeds United player Gary McAllister here before but that was more of a publicity stunt, this is for real. He trained with the lads last night and they were all so excited.”
Greening is now alongside his younger brother Josh at the ninth-tier club and could make his debut against Maltby on Saturday.
