Manchester United and England captain Wayne Rooney’s mistimed tackle on West Ham winger Stewart Downing in United’s 2-1 home win against the Hammers on Saturday saw Rooney shown the red card, and Red Devils manager Louis van Gaal has no complaints.
“It was a break-out of a set-play of ours and he makes a professional foul I think you can call it like that”, Van Gaal was quoted as saying by BBC.
“I don’t think Wayne wanted to do it that way but he did it and you can give a red card.”
The Manchester United manager also passed verdict on the tempo of the game, comparing the Premier League to Spain’s La Liga and Germany’s Bundesliga.
“The rhythm of the game is very high. You cannot compare it with Germany and Spain.”
“There is always pressure on the ball. Most of the English teams play physically. We have to keep the ball more easily and then we can improve our play.”
