Former France international and English Premier League defender William Gallas has announced his retirement at the age of 37.
The ex-Chelsea, Arsenal and Tottenham Hotspur man was quoted saying of his decision to retire by the Daily Mail: “It is not an easy thing to announce. You always tell yourself that you can keep going, but, I think today I cannot go on any longer.”
Gallas spent six seasons in his native French Ligue 1 with Caen and Marseille before moving to Samford Bridge in 2001, helping the Blues win back-to-back Premier League titles between 2004 and 2006 as well as being nominated in the Professional Footballers’ Association Team of the Year twice.
