Berti Vogts Resigns From Azerbijan Helm

Azerbaijan head coach Berti Vogts announced his decision to resign from his current position on Thursday in Zurich during a meeting with Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan (AFFA) chief executives after six years of being in charge.

The former Scotland and Germany coach’s Azerbaijan side started their UEFA EURO 2016 qualifying campaign with three straight defeats in Group H, including a 6-0 loss in Croatia on 13 October.

Rovnag Abdullayev, the AFFA president, thanked EURO ’96 winning coach with Germany and offered the 67-year-old a different role in the national team. Vogts, who led Bayer Leverkusen, Kuwait, Scotland and Nigeria, intends to share his knowledge with the successor who will prepare Azerbaijan for their next qualifier against Norway on 16 November.
