Barcelona boss Luis Enrique has admitted he does not know whether star striker Luis Suarez is fully fit, but was adamant that the Uruguayan is not fat, as he is preparing to make his debut for his new club with his suspension for biting Giorgio Chellini during the FIFA World Cup this summer nearing to an end.
The Uruguay international will be eligible to line up for Barca’s senior side for the first time when they face fierce Spanish La Liga rivals Real Madrid in the El Clasico on October 25, and Enrique says he is not sure how close to full fitness he is.
“It is hard to say,” he told reporters when asked about the summer signing’s condition.
“He feels he has improved compared to the first training sessions and the games with his country have helped him.
“I don’t know if he’s at 100 per cent, 80% or 90% fitness – but he is not fat.”
“You will have seen that. He has been in form for the past few months.”
Eibar will provide opposition on Saturday in the La Liga and Enrique says he is expecting a lively encounter when they play at Camp Nou despite the huge gulf in the league table between the two clubs.
“They are not a team who shut up shop,” he said.
“They have got good results away from home. I expect a team that pushes high up the pitch, that falls back well and is good on the counter.”
“They are bold and valiant. The Camp Nou plays its part, but we will see interesting things from them going forward.”
“I don’t think they will be frightened. I think they will come out like they did at Atletico Madrid.”
