Manchester City midfield maestro David Silva has been ruled out of Sunday’s Manchester derby against Manchester United in the English Premier League after injuring his knee in City’s 2-0 English Capital One Cup loss to Newcastle United during midweek.

The Spain international was substituted ten minutes into the cup clash with the Magpies, with scan results revealing ligament damage that could rule him out for up to three weeks, which could mean Silva missing City’s must-win UEFA Champions League fixture at home to CSKA Moscow and the league trip to Queens Park Rangers on November 8.

The news comes as a boost to City’s rivals United, while the Etihad Stadium side are left to lament the loss of one of their key players, who has started all but one of the club’s matches this season.
