Real Madrid are preparing a £20 million bid for Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Hugo Lloris in January as they look to improve their goalkeeping options, according to reports.

Long-serving Iker Casillas is currently the reigning UEFA Champions’ League champions’ first choice shot-stopper, but the Spaniard’s form for club and country has been called into question in recent months following a number of high-profile mistakes, and was linked with Arsenal last summer.

Lloris has made no secret of his desire to play at the highest level, and with being at White Hart Lane since August 2012, he has so far been unable to help Tottenham into the Champions’ League, and this current season has been inconsistent for the North London side.

Despite signing a new long-term contract in the summer with Spurs, the France international is likely to be interested in joining Real should the opportunity arise, and Carlo Ancelotti’s Spanish La Liga giants Real would be content to wait until the end of the season should a deal not be done in January, while French Ligue 1 elite side Paris Saint-Germain are also in the running to sign Lloris.
