Keown names his Premier League Team of the Season so far

Former Arsenal defender and current football pundit Martin Keown has named his Team of the Season in the English Premier League so far.

His goalkeeper is Manchester United’s David de Gea, who is the Red Devils’ only nominee following the Spaniard’s super start to the season.

“Over the last two years he has been the only Manchester United player performing at the levels you would expect of that club,” Keown told the Daily Mail.

“He has matured, gets more reliable with every game he plays and is now absolutely key to any success they have.”

His two centre-backs consists of Chelsea’s Gary Cahill, who has played a part in the Blues currently topping the league table, and Manchester City captain Vincent Kompany, with his side being second in the table, two points behind Chelsea.

Keown has opted for Everton’s Leighton Baines and Southampton’s Nathaniel Clyne in the full-backs slots, both of the players currently being England’s first-teamers.

Chelsea have an influnce in the midfield of Keown’s four-man midfield, with Cesc Fabregas, Nemanja Matic, and Eden Hazard the Blues’ middle-part nominees of Keown’s likings so far, but there is space for Arsenal’s big summer signing from Barcelona Alexis Sanchez, a Chile international.

Sanchez has scored nine league goals and assisting a further five in 15 starts so far, persuading Keown to give him the nod ahead of the likes of Manchester City’s David Silva and Manchester United’s Angel Di Maria.

“When he plays on the left, the picture is clearer for him — he cuts inside so well and his work-rate is infectious. With that he has great quality and has scored important goals,” Keown added.

The striker duo include’s Manchester City’s Sergio Aguero and Chelsea’s new signing Diego Costa, who have 27 goals between them this season and will both be in the hunt for the top scorer award in May.
