Aston Villa defender Philippe Senderos is confident his side’s goal-shy attack will soon start scoring goals on a more regular basis.
Villa have only scored 11 goals in 20 league matches so far this season, the lowest total in the English Premier League, with their joint top scorers Gabriel Agbonlahor and Andreas Wiemann having notched just three goals in the English top flight so far.
Meanwhile, the Villa Park outfit’s defence has conceded 22 goals, with only four clubs having a better defensive record in the league currently, and Paul Lambert’s side have only let in one goal in their last four league fixtures, even though injury problems mean they have struggled to field a settled backline.
Senderos has been encouraged by the team’s recent performances, and he said: ”We haven’t been conceding, we’ve been defending really well and improved a lot.”
“Our possession stats are higher and we’ve been getting a lot more of the ball.”
“I understand the frustration of the fans because we feel the same thing.”
“We should score more goals but I think the team have been doing brilliantly. I think this is the first step to getting more goals.”
“People need to keep behind the team and continue to support us.”
