Manchester City have added Houston Dynamo to their list of pre-season friendlies after previously announcing to play against Toronto.
The 2013/14 English Premier League champions are to play Dynamo on Thursday, May 28 at the BBVA Compass Stadium in a friendly which is part of the BBVA Compass Dynamo Charities Cup.
“We are delighted to play in Houston for the first time and have again the opportunity to play in the US in front of our American fans,” Manchester City CEO Ferran Soriano said in a statement.
“We are all looking forward to visiting this great city.”
Dynamo president Chris Canetti said the match is a long term effort to attract top teams to Houston.
“We’ve been working very hard over the last several years to try and land a team that has the stature that Man City has,” he told MLSsoccer.com.
“This is going to be a big moment for the club and its fans. We’ve always said we want to deliver an opponent like this for our club and our fan base.”
The friendly comes in the middle of the American Major League Soccer season, and Dynamo will play City’s sister club New York City two days after that.
“I don’t think any of us could turn down the opportunity to play such an elite team as Manchester City, and that’s a credit to the match,” Dynamo manager Owen Coyle said.
“It is a quick turnaround … in terms of the squad that’s something we’ll look at very closely.”
