Leicester renew Okazaki interest

Leicester City have reportedly stepped up their interest in Mainz forward Shinji Okazaki after the German Bundesliga side signed Japanese compatriot and former Tokyo attacker Yoshinori Muto.

The Foxes have been long-time admirers of Okazaki, with manager Nigel Pearson having attempted to sign the 29-year-old in the past two transfer windows.

The King Power Stadium side are said to be growing increasingly confident in signing Okazaki, who scored 12 times in 32 appearances for Die Nullfunfer last season, following the arrival of Muto at the Coface Arena, after having an £8 million bid for the Japan international in January rejected by Mainz.

It is also thought that the frontman is also one of Leicester’s priority signings as they prepare for a second season in the English Premier League.
