The 33-year-old the club’s official website: “You have to admire his consistency, the calibre of his work [and] what he has done since he came to Arsenal.
“He is valued at Arsenal for the right reasons. Being in his position for such a long time is very rare, you saw it at Manchester United [with Sir Alex Ferguson] and at Arsenal but you don’t really see it anywhere else.
“When I spoke with him it was very important for me to know that I see things in pretty much the same way, with the desire to improve and to get better and to win things.”
