Former Chelsea manager Jose Mourinho is in talks with French Ligue 1 champions Paris Saint-Germain and could move to the Parc des Princes if Manchester United, targeting the Portuguese boss, don’t act quickly.
Mourinho is the prime contender to replace Louis van Gaal should the Red Devils sack the Dutchman after Saturday’s FA Cup Final.
However Mourinho wants a deal agreed by next week, and unless United make their decision quickly they may lose out on him.
The news adds pressure on United executive Ed Woodward regarding the Old Trafford outfit’s interest in the currently-unemployed manager.
Despite Blanc having signed a contract extension earlier this year, club president Nasser Al-Khelaifi has needed to reconsider after failure to make it past the UEFA Champions’ League quarter-finals.
With Mourinho seeing replacing Laurent Blanc at PSG as an excellent opportunity, United are under pressure to make a decision as their goalkeeper and club’s player of the year David de Gea wants a move if van Gaal stays, with Real Madrid still interested in the 25-year-old Spain international.
And PSG’s move for Mourinho are likely to accelerate United’s decision to either stick with van Gaal or follow through initial plans and bring in Mourinho.
