Former Celtic and Blackburn Rovers striker Chris Sutton belives West Ham United midfielder Dimitri Payet has not turned up this season after his side lost 5-1 to Arsenal at home in Saturday’s English Premier League game.
Slaven Bilic’s Hammers side are currently struggling in the English top flight being one point and one place above the relegation zone with 14 games played, and could fall behind Hull City, who currently occupy a relegation spot, when they travel to Middlesbrough on Monday.
Sutton was critical of West Ham after what is their eighth defeat of the season and provided an honest verdict of Payet.
“Alarm bells are ringing at West Ham when your manager is questioning your commitment and your intensity,” he told Match of the Day.
“They are all over the place defensively, Payet has not turned up this season, they’ve had injuries, missing a centre-forward and they have big games coming up.”
France international Payet played the full 90 minutes against Arsenal and provided the assist for his side’s only goal that game.
He has scored one goal and provided seven assists in 12 games, but has failed to score since October.
